home with a nice bagel, something for breakfast. no, we're here. it is dry this morning. no need for the umbrella today. you want to shade yourself from the sunshine. we're going to have a lot of it and high clouds are going to roll in this afternoon. the dryer air will warm nicely. won't feel as muggy as it did. mid to upper 60s in the bay. it will be right at 60 along the coast. hope you enjoy. here's sue. thanks, mike. oakland, an earlier wrong way driver. that accident has been cleared out of lanes according to the chp. they still may be on scene doing their investigation but for now the lanes are wide open north 880 in the oakland area. the windsor area, purple sensors, that's a full road closure. that was supposed to be picked up by 5:00 a.m. that's 101 from full tan to shiel low. a stall blocking the right lane. 101 before the dumps.

we'll take a live look outside. traffic is flowing nicely. golden gate fields into the mcarthur maze. >> sue, thank you. breaking news this morning. two fires in hayward actually. we want to get to abc 7 news reporter amy holleyfield. a dramatic fire from last night and, amy, another one burning behind you? >> reporter: huge fire in hayward. behind the fire we were covering. i can tell that water is getting put on this one. it was a really big fire a few seconds ago. we can't tell what's burning. right next to homes where we saw lights getting turned on. people woke up and realized there was a fire outside their window. very dangerous embers shooting into the air. we saw some headed our way so we had to back up. firefighters were running to get to this when they saw it and they saw how big it was.

the tree was cashing on fire. now let me give you some perspective of how we discovered this. we're up here on an apartment balcony right down there is where there was a fire last night. this crew is here cleaning up from that fire when we discovered the one that's happening right now. so let me show you video from the fire we were originally covering. this one happened at 11:00 in hayward in an apartment complex on seventh street. three adults had to jump from the second floor window and then toss a 3-year-old child down to a grandmother below. the adults were taken to the hospital and are being treated for injuries. the child is okay. there are four units in this apartment building. there are five people in all who were home at the time. everyone did escape the fire safely. they don't know what caused it at this point. it looks like it started in the kitchen. it could have possibly been a cooking fire but because of it 12 people now need another place to stay because of smoke and water damage in the other units

and the one unit that is a total loss. now you're looking at a live picture of the fire that broke out a couple of minutes ago. is it a coincidence? probably. we certainly don't know at this point, but it sure seems like a strange coincidence. don't know how they could be related if the home fire started in a kitchen and this one looks like it's possibly a car. of course, once they get the fire out they will be looking into this strange timing of these two fires and we will keep you posted on what they find out. reporting live, amy hollyfield. thank you. a former ymca child care worker is scheduled to enter a plea. he's accused of assaulting girls 3 to 5. this morning a funeral service will be held for the 14-year-old girl who was killed by a train in martinez last

sunday. jenna betty was on the tracks and got up to leave as the train was approaching east of old orchard and howe roads. she dropped her cell phone on the tracks and was trying to retrieve it when she was hit. today's services will be held at 10:30 at christ the king parish in pleasant hill. police have released video of the dramatic chase and capture of two armed robbery suspects. >> robbers, robbers. >> southbound. >> i've got one body still westbound through the backyard. he just went over the backyard fence turning north bound. >> police say they held up two markets. this is security video of one of last month's robberies. one of the men fired his gun into the air. the two men are wanted for 20 armed robberies since december. no one's been hurt in any of those. the suspects, 25-year-old jesus escobar and 22-year-old angel rodriguez leone are being held

in the santa klara county jail. face-to-face diplomatic meetings are not working to solve the crisis in the ukraine. he's demanding that vladimir putin end it diplomatically. tim mon bradley is live in washington. timon? >> reporter: kristen, this standoff has taken a dangerous turn. secretary john kerry returns home as vladimir putin digs in. >> the slightest miss calculation could see it spiral out of control. >> reporter: the united states is offering vladimir putin a diplomatic solution. president obama is proposing direct talks between ukraine and russia, russian forces returning to their bases and international monitors in ukraine. even after mr. obama and mr. putin spoke on the phone for an hour on thursday, the russian leader doesn't seem ready to budge. in fact, he's tightening his grip. putin claims ethnic russians living in crimea are being

threatened. pro russian authorities pushed the parliament to call for a referendum vote to become part of the russian federation. the u.s. calls that illegal. >> in 2014 we are well beyond the days when borders can be redrawn over the heads of democratic leaders. >> reporter: the international community has moved swiftly to impose sanctions on russia. european leaders meeting m brussels to suspend talks on an economic pact and a visa. >> we have issued a clear warning to putin that he must not destabilize further. >> >> reporter: president obama has ordered a ban for the russian takeover in crimea and is freezing the umpt s. assets. the u.s. has sent fighter jets to the region to help nato monitor the skies. >> reporter: this could get very dicey if the people of crimea decide to join russia. the u.s. and e.u. say they are not going to go along with that vote and recognize it. live in washington, timon

bradley, abc 7 news. thank you. breaking news. an early morning fire has sent two people to the hospital. abc 7 news reporter is live on the scene on aetna way. >> kristen, we understand the injuries are not serious. a man and a woman were inside the home on edna way. firefighters are still here on the scene. this he do believe that they have the fire fully out. right now they're simply just trying to monitor the situation, make sure there are no hot spots. firefighters did tell me though that they have problems accessing the home because of security bars on the doors and windows. they believe that the fire started in the rear of the home. when they got here they did see smoke, they did see flames. they did a check. they found out that the first person that came out was a man. he said, hey, there's someone else inside. when they went back inside that's when they found the woman. both had minor burns. both had been transported. we're still gathering

with america's money report. >> reporter: good morning. topping america's money, the february release of the jobs report will lay on wall street today. experts say it shouldn't shake the markets too much. they don't expect a big change in the jobs market until the spring. bank of america is offering a new checkless checking account that it hopes will appeal to low income customers. customers will do all of their banking electronically for a monthly fee of the irs says most americans are getting a return of $3,000. chrysler is demanding the destruction of dozens of dodge vipers including this one worth a quarter million. the cars were denated to schools as educational tools but two were involved in accidents that cost the company millions of dollars. that's america's money. i'm marci gonzalez. make it a great day. delta airlines has announced changes to its frequent flyer program after complaints from

travelers. the airline is leaving domestic reward travel at 25,000 miles while lowering the requirements on some international flights especially in business and first class. also starting next year, customers will earn miles based on how much they spend not just how many miles they fly. spending is already a factor in loyalty programs with southwest, jetblue and virgin america. the san jose giants are stepping up to the plate to honor a 95-year-old world war ii veteran. on sunday joe bell donned his old uniform to greet participants in a benefit run for the pat tillman foundation. as you can see, the runners loved it going out of their way to shake his hand and joe was quite touched by it. the video has been viewed more than a million times on the internet. the giants loved the video so much they made a trading card of bell and it will be the first happened out in the team's salute to the military trading card set. america's game is come being to the bay area this weekend if you haven't heard yet. >> yeah, fans of one of the most

when you get on our side of it in san francisco. same thing in parker city. 48 in ocean beach. coolest around westportal. you can cee lo 50s around downtown. the ferry building is warmest, about 54 degrees. broaden this out. 49 in richmond, 48 in san leandro. 45 in saratoga. those are some of the cooler temperatures. everybody else around 50 degrees. east bay hills, you can see all of the bay bridge. both spans looking nice this morning under that clear air. going to be dry and warmer today and tomorrow. some light rain sunday night through monday and extended warmth and dry weather next week. in fact, looks like we'll be warmer today and tomorrow. today above average. mid to upper 60s away from the coast. the coast will be around 60 degrees. tonight you can see some fog out there once again. probably the greatest threat in the central valley. we'll have temperatures in the 40s just about everywhere save oakland and san francisco right

around 50 degrees. here's what's going to happen today. going to follow the pattern, the high is, of building over top of us. because it is, just some high clouds will overrun us. the storm track will be well to our north. fast forward to saturday evening at 7:00. you can see clouds increasing tomorrow during the afternoon hours. there's a possibility of a sprinkle sunday morning up in the north bay but notice the rain shield is well to your north. then it starts to dip down a little bit sunday afternoon. so if you are going to grayton, you may get a sprinkle or two on you at the wheel mobile festivities. i think the steadier rain will start once the sun sets on sunday which will be around 7:00. then you can see the steady rain moving across the bay just in time for the morning commute on monday. we'll have some fun challenges then. here's your accuweather seven day forecast. there you go, daylight savings. it begins saturday night into sunday. set those clocks ahead an hour. we lose an hour's sleep. best chance of rain sunday night into monday.

hollyfield will have the live report. number two also breaking news in the south bay. san jose firefighters are on the scene of a house fire on edna way. right now they are putting out hot spots. crews say security bars on the doors and windows definitely made it difficult to access the fire. a man and woman are being treated for minor burns. number three this morning, a south bay lawmaker will announce legislation to deter cyber bullying and sexual assault all blamed for a 15-year-old saratoga's suicide. jim bell is introducing audrey's law following the 2012 death of audrey pott. he wants to make cases more severe. a former girlfriend of oscar pistorius testified that the double amputee's murder trial. samantha taylor says their relationship ended when he cheated on her with reeva steenkamp. pistorius carried a gun with him at all times when they were dating. number five, fresh off

presidio. it was rejected. kaplan said he would be more than welcome to put the museum in the henry j. kaiser convention center which has been sitting vacant next to scenic lake merit. kaplan said your dreams can come true in oakland. a spokes machb for lucas says they will consider that option as well as all others. after isaiah washington is set to return to abc's hit series "gray's anatomy" seven years after his highly publicized exit, abc says washington will be making a guest appearance in may. he was let go in 2007 after reportedly directing an anti-gay remark to his co-anchor. dr. christina yen was engaged to dr. burt at one point in the long-running drama. royal watchers are buzzing over prince william and kate embarking on a romantic get

80 through berkeley, no metering and traffic is flowing nicely. >> very busy morning for breaking news. yeah, breaking news, several fires in two cities this morning. we start in san jose where a house fire that send two people to the hospital has now been deemed a crime scene. abc 7 news reporter nick smith live at the scene. nick. >> reporter: we understand it's been deemed a crime scene because investigators believe that it is, indeed, arson. we had an opportunity to speak to someone who arrived on the scene shortly after the fire started. he shared this cell phone video with us. you can see the thick smoke, the 234r5i78s. you can see what investigators found when they arrived. they found this fire fully engulfed. they say that the two occupants of the home, a man and a woman, got out through the back. both of them had come past the flames. both of them sustained burns. he described it, the fire chief here, on the scene described it,

their injuries, as critical. he says he does not know if they are live threatening but the burns were indeed critical. we had an opportunity to speak with the fire chief. >> in the last few minutes we've learned this seen has become a crime scene. the arson unit is on scene. they're investigating the fire. they didn't give me any specific reasons why it's become a crime scene. prior to coming to this scene the arson unit did go over to the hospital and interview the two patients that were transported. >> reporter: back here live at the scene the fire crews are still on the scene. they are looking for additional hot spots. we'll provide you with an update on twitter and live on the scene. in san jose, nick smith, abc 7 news. nick, thank you. to the east bay where two fires broke out this morning, one

involved several people jumping from a window to ee skach and the other breaking out just within the past half hour. nearby abc 7 news reporter amy holleyfield is live in hayward. amy. >> reporter: yeah, kristen. i think this is the first for me. covering one fire and then another one broke out right next to it. look at the damage from the most recent fire. this one just getting put out. nine cars burned in this one. seven are destroyed. the carport is gone too. look at the video. this was shot after our photographer called the fire department but before the firefighters arrived. it spread so quickly. we saw it catch a tree on fire in just a matter of seconds. embers were raining down. the scary part was how close it was to people who were sleeping. there was a home right behind it. we saw their lights go on when they realized there was a fire. there were apartment buildings next to t. firefighters surrounded it quickly.

they were running when they saw it and they kept it from spreading to people's homes. it was very scary for the residents. >> we happened to look and the noise and commotion and it was extremely frightening. i was shaking. i didn't know what to do. the department was leave before it blows up. it was so scary. >> reporter: now here's the original fire we were covering. this fs at 11:00 last night. an apartment unit was on fire. they believe it started in the kitchen. firefighters tell me three adults had to jump from the second story bedroom window down to safety. it was about a 20 foot drop down to pavement and then they had to toss a 3-year-old down out that window to a grandmother below. the child is okay. the adults were taken to the hospital and the firefighter here tells me they went into surgery. they don't think that these two are connect, just think it's a very strange, weird coincidence. right here at the car fires,

they have no idea whether this is arson or it was some kind of an accident. too early to tell. right now they're making sure it doesn't flare-up again. this morning san francisco police are investigating two more pedestrian accidents. the first happened around 9:00 last night at full some and sixth street. a car's windshield shows the force of the impact. the officer told us the pedestrian suffered serious but nonlife threatening injuries. a few minutes later another pedestrian was hit by a car walking on van he is. they announced san francisco will spend $17 million to improve pedestrian safety. the improvements will include the creation of new sidewalk curbouts and traffic light timing changes at key intersections. happening this morning, a silicon valley area lawmaker

will announce a measure to deter cyber bullying and sexual assault all blamed for a 15-year-old saratoga teen's suicide. jim bell is introducing audrey's law following the 2012 death of audrey pott. bill wants to make sentences more severe in cases like audreys. she took her own life after three boys shared explicit photos of her taken after she was passed out and was sexually assaulted at a party. drinking was involved. the boys received short sentences between 30 and 45 days in juvenile detention. they've been tried as adults they would have spent ten years in prison. authorities may be closer to solving the murders of five women on the peninsula. the cases went back 40 years. they launched a new task force to investigate the murders in san mateo county. in 1979 a woman named kathy wood

confessed to mitchell's murder. a law enforcement source tells abc 7 news that even though dna led to her conviction, they believe she had a male accomplice who may have committed the other murders. detectives who worked on the cases are glad they're being re-examined. >> love it. it's going to be -- if anything's going to solve it, this will. >> members of the task force plan to canvass neighborhoods where the victims were last seen in '76 and where their bodies were discovered. major change could be coming to your favorite grocery stores. safe way is being absorbed by albert sons in a $9.4 billion deal. safe way based in pleasant ton has 1300 locations when it combines with albert son's which is over 1100 stores it will become the largest retail grocery chain in the u.s. both stores will be owned by cyberus. safe way ceo says customers will benefit from significant cost savings, synergies and a stronger management team.

safe way employs 1800 workers in the bay area. melissa bell with the labor department released the february jobs report. the unemployment rate went up .1% to 6.7% with employers adding 175,000 jobs last month. we'll see how wall street reacts to the news when the new york stock exchange opens at 6:30. the numbers as far as weather have been trending up. mike, kind of warm. >> definitely. not quite as muggy. we're starting off cooler because of the lack of cloud cover. 10 degrees cooler in concord, 7 in san jose. 5 to 9 around the rest of the bay shore. 6 in napa and san roosevelt. dress accordingly when you step out. most of us in the 40s. we'll be in the low to mid 40s inland. mid to upper 40s around the bay. coastal communities at 7:00. we're starting to see the high clouds reaching some of our neighborhoods. brighter.

>> announcer: covering walnut creek, about your ton, camel and all the bay area, this is abc 7 news. massachusetts lawmakers took quick action to change the state's peeping tom law after its supreme court ruled a man who took cell phone pictures up women's skirts did not violate state law. lawmakers passed new legislation yesterday closing the loophole in the original law's language that only made it illegal to shoot nude photos. now anyone who tries to take a photo of a person's private parts without their consent could get two years in jail and

the thickest at our reporting station at half moon bay about five miles. let's move on and talk about what will happen as far as temperatures coming into san francisco. not much has changed. in the upper 40s around christie field. you can see about 54. that's the warm spot around the building. temperatures elsewhere, pretty much in the mid to upper 40s. 43 at santa clara. pleasant ton. 44, palo alto, one of the cooler spots at 43 in belmont. this is the way it looks from the east bay hills. you don't see much there, do we? a lot of calmness, that's what i'm seeing thanks to high pressure. it will bring us a dry and warmer day today and tomorrow. light rain possible on sunday. mainly in the evening hours. monday morning for the rest of us. the extended warm and even warmer and dry next week is what i'm trying to say. near 60 along the coast. mid to upper 60s. near 70 in fairfield today. one of the warm spots. tonight, fog. you can see a little bit out

there along the coast and into the central valley. a little bit more patchy. we'll see more than we are experiencing this morning. temperature around santa rosa, napa. low 40s. oakland, san francisco around 50 degrees. here's what happened overnight. high pressure rolls right over top of us. it's going to dominate the storm track, push it to our west and north. it's going to bring us sinking air and warm temperatures. it will be overrun by high clouds. that's the only thing you'll notice today and tomorrow. watch the rain shield in the upper part of your screen, especially on the left. it flirts with the north bay during saturday night and sunday. maybe some drizzle. you'll get your better chance of light rain as we head right towards 5:00. it starts coming down from santa rosa sunday evening. it keeps spreading south ward. it will be around for the monday morning commute. couple of hundredths. we're hoping for a half inch to inch in the north bay. fast moving system with not a lot of moisture.
